Despite climate change, sea ice in the Northwest Passage remains too thick and treacherous for it to become a regular commercial Arctic shipping route for many decades, according to new research out of York University.
While noting the progress made to combat piracy off the coast of Somalia, the United Nations political chief today said that a sustained long-term solution must include the presence of effective Government and State institutions that provide basic services and alternative ways for people to make a living.

Under the Black Sea Initiative so far, 12 vessels have been "authorized to depart the Ukrainian ports," the acting UN coordinator for the grain deal told UN journalists in New York on Wednesday.
